About Us

The Dunstan Wai Memorial Charitable Foundation provides scholarships for girls in secondary schools and tertiary institutions in Kajo Keji County, South Sudan and in the neighboring communities in northern Uganda. Founded in July 2005 to honor the memory of Dunstan Wai, a former World Bank staff member originally from Kajo Keji County, the DWMCF currently supports 120 girls in five secondary schools in Form 1 to Form 5 (9th grade through 12th grade) and 9 girls in 4 tertiary institutions. At the time of Dunstan’s death in 2005, UNICEF estimated that fewer than 500 girls had completed primary school in South Sudan, a country of 7 million. Dunstan felt there could be no greater gift to his native land than to promote the education of girls.
